As the whole of the Nation celebrated the historic soft landing of the Chandrayaan-3 near the Moon’s South Pole, Manipur too took pride in the success of its two scientists who are among the ISRO’s Moon Mission team.

A Liangmai Naga boy, Noel Mathiulungbo Chawang was also part of the team.

Dr Ningthoujiam Raghu Singh, from Thanga, Bishnupur district, is among the scientists of the ISRO who are/were behind the historic Chandrayaan-3 feat that has placed India among a few elite countries that have reached the Moon–Russia, USA and China. Dr Raghu is an alumni of IISc Bangalore, IIT-Guwahati and DM College of Science, Imphal. While Dr N Raghu is from Manipur, another scientist of Manipur origin behind the mission, a young Y Bishal Singha from Silchar, Assam has also made the State proud.

Y Bishal Singha is reportedly said to be a Thermal Systems Engineer with the ISRO and is from IIT Guwahati.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Biren Singh took to X (formerly Twitter) and said, “It’s heartening to share that a scientist from Manipur, Dr. Raghu Ningthoujam, from Thanga, Bishnupur was part of the Chandrayaan moon landing mission. The setbacks we encounter from time to time cannot erase our 2000-year-old history. Regardless of the difficulty of the challenge, the people of Manipur will always bounce back stronger.”

The successful South Pole Moon landing is a monumental accomplishment. The landing marked India as a pioneering Nation to achieve this feat, N Biren Singh said

“We’re immensely proud of this incredible achievement, and it is bound to inspire many young minds in the field of science and technology,” CM Biren said.

Congratulating the ISRO team, Chairman of Loktak Development Authority (LDA) M Asnikumar Singh said that it is inspiring that Raghu Ningthoujam,  scientist at ISRO who is a key member of the successful Chandrayaan-3 hails from a humble fishing family. “It is a matter of immense pride for the fishing community of Manipur and is an inspiration to many of us. May he continue to shine,” said Asnikumar.
