“Principles preached by Lord Ram are worshipped in the country. These principles also bring all the communities together. They bring together the East, the West, the North and the South,” said Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat. He was speaking at an event organized by Andhra Association to celebrate Ram Navami on its premises at North Ambazari Road on Wednesday.

“We are a Hindu nation and must live in harmony,” said Bhagwat. Commissioner of police Venkatesham and corporator Sandeep Jadhav were also present at the event.

“It is the first time that I’m attending a programme organized by the association and I’m glad to be here,” said Jadhav.

The celebrations were marked with a traditional marriage ceremony between Rama and Sita. Association’s secretary PSN Murty said that devotees carried out a shobhayatra early morning which concluded at the association’s hall.

The daylong celebrations saw devotees performing aartis and devotional songs. It was followed by mahaprasad. According to an association member PT Sarma, the marriage ceremony Sitaram Kalyana was performed according to Telugu customs followed by the community in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Sarma said that the celebration was a scaled-down version of the event at Bhadrachalam Temple in Telangana.

“The association has been organizing Ram Navami programmes in the city since six years. People from all communities are welcome to join the programme. One can observe our religious customs and enjoy the celebrations,” said Sarma.

Around 600 individuals from Telugu as well as other communities joined the festivities here, Sarma added.
