The Punjab government has decided to hand over the murder of Ludhiana RSS leader Ravinder Gosain to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Orders for the NIA probe were issued by Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh on a request by a RSS delegation that met him at his residence on Thursday evening. Amarinder acceded to the RSS request taking into account the international ramifications of the case, according to an official spokesperson.

Investigations so far in similar incidents in the past suggested that the handlers of the assailants were operating from foreign soil, said the spokesperson, adding that Captain Amarinder felt that with the NIA stepping in, it would lead to better coordination between the central agencies and the Punjab police.

Amarinder Singh issued the orders while announcing Rs 5 lakh compensation for the family and a government job, commensurate with the educational qualifications, for one of the four children of the deceased.

Gosain had lost his wife to cancer some years ago and is survived by four children.

Sharing the delegation’s concern over the brazen killing of Ravinder Gosain, Captain Amarinder strongly condemned the act, saying there was no place for such violence in the state. Asserting that his government would not tolerate such lawlessness, the chief minister said it was taking all measures to prevent these kinds of targeted killings.

Amarinder assured the delegation the state police was working hard to solve all the previous cases of such murders and he had personally issued directions for expediting the investigations. No effort would be spared to nab the culprits and bring them to book in any of the cases of targeted killings, which were clearly aimed at destabilizing the state and destroying its peace, said the chief minister.

The head teacher of Mohan Shakha of RSS in Amantran colony of Jodhewal area, Ravinder Gosain (60) was shot dead by motorcycle borne two assailants outside his home in Gagandeep Colony of Jodhewal on October 16.

Gosain was standing outside his house with his two grandchildren. While he had 4-year-old granddaughter in lap, his 7-year-old grandson was standing behind him. The RSS leader was pumped two bullets with two different weapons of .30 and .32 bore revolver, killing him on the spot.

This is the seventh such murder in which the police have not got any clue.

Deepak Gosain, eldest son of deceased, said, “We are satisfied with the decision of state government to transfer the case to NIA. We hope them to nab the criminals soon.”

He also said the family is coordinating with the police in every way possible.
