The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested Mushtaq Ahmed, an absconding accused in a case relating to bomb blast in 1993, at the RSS office in Chennai. The accused was absconding since last 24 years.
The powerful bomb blast occurred at RSS karyalay located in M.V.Naidu Street, Chetpet, Madras on 8th August, 1993, resulting in the death of 11 persons and injury to 7 others with extensive damage to the building.
Mushtaq Ahmed was instrumental in procuring explosive substances for the terrorist attack and in arranging hideouts for the prime accused in the incident, in various places, was absconding right from the stage of investigation.
The CBI took over the case on request of Tamilnadu Government from state police which was earlier registered at their Chetpet Police Station and later transferred to CB-CID, Chennai.
On 21.6.2007, the Special Judge, TADA Court-II, Chennai, pronounced judgment against the remaining accused persons convicting 11 and acquitting 4 and charges abated against two accused persons, who had died. The trial was pending against the absconding accused.
