Hyderabad was probably the only place in Bharat’s freedom struggle where advocates formally participated as a unit. The Pleaders Protest Committee was formed under the leadership of Vináyakráo Vidyálankár.
On 25th Feb 1948, advocates began a procession streaming through the main road and reached the High Court & submitted a memorandum to the Chief Justice denouncing the government’s inaction in protecting life, property, dignity & honour of the public.
The memo concluded “Through this petition we are announcing that so long as peace is not re-established in the land, we are suspending our court related activities, and with deep regret and sorrow are parting from you.
We have full faith in that All Powerful that peace and order will soon return, and we will return again in the service of your Honour and be capable of bearing our court related responsibilities.
In conclusion, we expect from your Honour that no ill-effect of this decision of ours will visit the cases of clients, and they will be extended the necessary assistance to prosecute their castes. We have, on our side, arranged to notify clients.”
The Madras Bar Association welcomed this bold step of the advocates of the state through a resolution, congratulated them, and extended their full support. The same day, All India Radio @airnewsalerts also broadcast this news.
– Sardár Pat̟el turned emotional on getting this news about the boycott of courts by the lawyers of the state. #HyderabadMuktiSangram
