21k/10K/5K Run held to promote Girl Child Empowerment.
A Fourth edition of “Run for Girl Child” was organised in city by Seva Bharathi –Telangana on Sunday, 2nd February 2020, Gachibowli Stadium, Hyderabad, to promote awareness about the program “Kishori Vikas” with a cause to Empower a Girl Child. The Run For A Girl Child is a flagship event for Kishori Vikas program for the past 4 years.
The event was flagged off at the Gachibowli Stadium by Chess Grand Master
& World No. 7 Harika Dronavalli along with other notable industry personalities and corporate heads from MNC’s. The Run was categorised in three distances, 5km, 10km and 21km. This edition of run saw 8000+ participants from individuals, corporates, families and students and an additional 500+ Seva Bharathi volunteers and 1000’s of young Kishori beneficaries. The Run started from Gachibowli Stadium, with 5Km continued till Hyderabad Central University main gate and back to Stadium. Whereas 10Km and 21Km extended further into 2300 acres of Central University and back to Stadium.
Corporates like Freedom Oil, Globaldata, Avineon, GGK Tech, Electronic Arts, NMDC, Capgemini, Manjeera Constructions, GEP, Genpact and many IT companies have participated. Around 500 Kishori Vikas beneficiaries participated in the event and demonstrated various cultural and self-defence skills. Across the sidelines, Seva Bharathi showcased various service spectrums by setting up stalls.
It was an encouraging experience to young Kishoris to get interacted by various corporate heads and guests during the event. Kishori could be seen in animated conversations with the guests and in the end it was a very rewarding experience to these young minds on the whole.
As with every edition, this year also saw 250+ participations from ARMY and Security forces contingent actively taking part in the event.
This edition we also flagged off our second Mobile Science lab called Jignyasa in the presence of our donors – Global Data and other dignitaries.
In the end, we got a good feedback from participants and also from our Kishoris for the experience they have encountered. And we – organizers are motivated to come back next year bigger and better.
“At present, 210 Kishori Vikas centers are active across slums of Hyderabad with 5348 beneficiaries. Through this run, aim is to increase this to 400 Kishori centers and 10,000 beneficiaries. These centers empower Girl Children residing in Slums and Low Income areas by helping them in their Education, Health and Skill Development” Seva Bharathi, General Secretary Mr Rama Murthy Prabhala said on the sidelines.
