The incessant rains over the past few days have severely affected life in several districts of Telangana State. The people in rural areas of the districts have faced the brunt of these sudden floods. They are finding it extremely difficult to procure essentials such as food, drinking water, medicines among others.

Seva Bharathi is a voluntary organization based in Telangana State. It undertakes various social welfare programs. Around 300 volunteers of Seva Bharathi have been at the forefront of flood relief efforts in the flood hit regions of Telangana State.

Cherla Bhadrachalam, Burgampadu, Malinguru areas of Bhadradri Kothagudem District; Tokvai, Eturu Nagaram, Venkatapuram, Vajedu Mandals of Mulugu District; Manthani, Godavarikhani Mandals of Peddapalli District; Chennuru, Kotipalli, Mancherial Mandals of Mancherial District and villages of Mahadevpur Mandal of Bhupalpally District have been hit beyond recovery by these severe floods.

Seva Bharathi immediately rose to action on a war footing to undertake flood relief measures in these areas in order to save the lives of the people. With Hyderabad as its command centre, groceries, clothes, medicines, utensils, milk powder for babies and other essentials are packed in kits and are being supplied to the flood affected families, over the past week.

In these testing times, each family, on an average, requires rice, tamarind, dals, oil, soaps, chilli powder, turmeric powder, candles, match boxes and other 16 types of essentials. Kits containing these items are packed and are being supplied to the families, in different phases.

Till now, over 3,000 kits have been distributed with the donations received. Seva Bharathi has set itself a target of 15,000 kits. At present, these kits are the only sources of food and medicine to the flood affected families. 60 volunteers are toiling 24 hours a day to pack these kits and to send them to the affected villages. Seva Bharathi volunteers are also visiting the houses of the flood hit families and inquiring about the required essentials and other difficulties faced by them.

As per an estimate, the enormous loss caused by these floods is believed to prevail for over the next 6 months. There has been huge loss of crops, livestock, property and there is human suffering, because of which the people are facing hardships.Besides the temporary relief, Seva Bharathi has prepared a plan to provide the required rehabilitation facilities to the people who have been hit in various ways. In these times of need, Seva Bharathi requests the Corporates and Philanthropists/Donors to contribute to this noble cause of reducing human suffering.
