Education system should be based on Hindutva: Mohan Bhagwat

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday envisioned the need of Hindutva and patriotism in the Indian education system.

“The generation of youth that is committed to Hindutva and is steeped into patriotism, is capable to fight contemporary problems, and is committed to uplift the deprived people by making them free of exploitation and injustice,” the leader said.

Earlier in March 25 and 26 of this year, RSS stirred up controversy by saying, “There should be Indianness in the purpose, content and system of education,” in ‘Gyan Sangam’, a workshop hosted by RSS-affiliate Prajna Prava, where over 700 academics and Vice Chancellors of 51 state and central universities attended the programme.

While speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Rao Mehar Chand Saraswati Vidya Mandir here in Bhalswa, the Sangh supremo said that, “A life should be meaningful apart from being successful. Only then the knowledge that a human being acquires becomes meaningful.”

“Knowledge makes a human educated. It empowers children to maintain self esteem. Knowledge cannot be attained by just attending schools. It also requires sacrifice and devotion by guardians and the family,” Bhagwat added.

“The purpose of education is not only to earn livelihood. Its purpose is to become capable for giving something back to the society in which we live. It is necessary to ignite these feelings to make education meaningful,” he said.

Sangh has been describing the “true nationalist narrative” since the political violences have been reported in various college and university campuses in last couple of years across the nation.

RSS stalwarts also asserted to alter the text books with India’s own history. They even called India’s education is “completely INDEX spiritually based”.

According to RSS, economic exertion is necessary but the rise of a nation is predicated on spirituality.
