Dattatreya Hosabale, Joint General Secretary of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has underscored the need to form action-oriented groups of members of civil society to promote discussions on indigenous knowledge systems.

He was addressing the valedictory of the two-day symposium on Ekatma Manav Darshan, the doctrine advocated by Jana Sangh ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyaya that was also known as Integral Humanism, here on Monday.

He said that individual liberty that forms the essence of democracy, the concept of egalitarian society advocated by Karl Marx, were not new for India, but were discussed in detail in ancient India by Vedanta scholars.

The ancient scriptures, including Vedas and Upanishads, and the rich folklore traditions of India are treasure trove of knowledge. It is unfortunate that the institutions of higher learning in India have blindly accepted the ideas from the West but have put in little efforts to explore and document the knowledge in ancient Indian texts, including Vedas and Upanishads and the rich folk tradition of the land, he said.

Mr. Hosabale said that the socialist as well as liberal economic models have failed in Indian context. It is necessary to evolve a native economic model to bring meaningful changes in the lives of the people from all sections of society.
