Hindu Dharma Parirakshana Trust (HDPT) has expressed its concern over new year celebrations in the Hindu temples on January 1. It has also said celebrating, wishing and creating a festive atmosphere at temples is not a Vedic culture.
HDPT claims that the Commissioner of Endowments Departments, Andhra Pradesh, has noticed such celebrations in Hindu temples are being held by lavishly spending lakhs of rupees for decoration on this particular day.
Objecting to such practice, The Commissioner has instructed the temple authorities in the state not to spend any money for flower decoration or towards New Year wishes on January 1st in temples, citing that the money was donated by Hindu devotees was to nurture the Hindu practices not the western.
HDPT said we should mark Ugadi festival as our new year which comes in Chitramasam, and it should be celebrated as per our culture.
In the press statement, Dr. Chilakapati Vijaya Raghavacharyulu, secretary of HDPT has appealed to all the temple authorities in the state to strictly follow and implement orders of The Commissioner of Endowments Departments in this regards.
