Historic Rakhi for Soldiers Event Celebrated at Raj Bhavan and Across India

Hyderabad, August 30, 2023 : A momentous event unfolded at the Raj Bhavan as the city celebrated Raksha Bandhan in an entirely new light with the “Rakhi for Soldiers” program. The esteemed venue witnessed the Honorable Governor of Telangana, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, along with distinguished dignitaries and attendees, marking a historic occasion of unity, gratitude, and national pride. Samskruti Foundation is appreciated by Veteran Army Officers Lt General Ramachandra Rao, Lt General Surendranath and  this remarkable initiative, wholeheartedly endorsed by Commodore Sudheer Parakala (Retd), aims to bridge the gap between our devoted soldiers and the broader society, particularly the youth. It also serves as a heartfelt gesture to express our gratitude for their unwavering service and sacrifices. The “Rakhi for Soldiers” campaign epitomizes our core values and dedication to nurturing a sense of national pride and unity. Major General Rakesh Manocha has emphasized the role of younger generation in national building.

Speaking on the significance of the event, the Honorable Governor stated, “This is the first time that the Rakhi for Soldiers program has happened here. In history, this is the inaugural time that Raj Bhavan is celebrating Rakshabandhan with Soldiers. Reaching out to the people with a bond and promise of protecting each other is the significance of the bond and the festival. We need to reach out. We are also proud of reaching the moon, thanks to the honorable Prime Minister.” The Governor further emphasized the diversity that India possesses, highlighting the threads of unity binding the nation amidst its various cultures and languages.

With eloquence, the Governor reflected on the timeless traditions of Raksha Bandhan, extending the concept of the brother-sister relationship beyond blood ties. “When we tie rakhi, we adopt a brother; we adopt a sister. The brother and sister bond is not by birth; it is by living and friendship,” she shared, emphasizing the essence of relationships based on mutual respect and care.

She underlined the importance of nurturing these bonds, likening them to seeds that require consistent attention to flourish. Notably, she acknowledged the unique bond shared with soldiers, recognizing their role in safeguarding the nation. “We are able to celebrate that we are living and leading our lives because soldiers are keeping us safe at home. Their contribution is immense.”

Acknowledging the presence of the young generation, the Governor highlighted the transformation from challenging times to a future of better lives. She expressed her heartfelt sentiment by tying rakhis to all the citizens of Telangana, symbolizing unity and solidarity.

The “Rakhi for Soldiers” event at Raj Bhavan served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by soldiers and the indomitable spirit of unity that defines our nation. The ceremonial tying of rakhis and the Governor’s inspiring words resonated with attendees, fostering a renewed sense of appreciation for the armed forces and a commitment to upholding the bonds that tie us together.

Following the morning ceremony, the event continued at various Army units across the city, including Secunderabad Military Hospital, Hakimpet Airforce Base, Begumpet Airforce Base, Arty Center (TASA 1-6), and EME Center (TASA 3-4). A total of 640 students from these units participated, symbolizing the solidarity between civilians and the armed forces. Over 1200 Soldiers participated in the festival of Rakshbandhan.

The day’s activities included a Rakhi tying ceremony, where attendees had the honor of tying rakhis on specially crafted boards symbolizing soldiers. In addition, attendees wrote letters and messages of appreciation, underscoring the nation’s support for the military personnel stationed at border posts.

Cultural performances reflecting the diverse heritage of India were showcased, celebrating the unity that defined the nation. Distinguished guest speakers, including military personnel and veterans, shared their experiences, providing attendees with a deeper understanding of the sacrifices made by soldiers.

Similar celebrations were organized at Jammu and Kashmir army units and the Avadi Unit of Chennai, emphasizing the nationwide reach and significance of the “Rakhi for Soldiers” initiative.
