Malayalam film director Ali Akbar and his wife Luciyamma embraced Hindu way of life on Thursday in a Shudhi ceremony. After reverting to Hindu Dharma, Ali Akbar adopted a new name Ramasimhan.

Interestingly, eight decades ago, a Muslim named Unnian Sahib, along with his family, had renounced Islam and accepted Hindu way of life in Malabar and renamed himself as ‘Ramasimhan’. Unfortunately, a Jihadi mob attacked his house alleging apostasy and killed Ramasimhan and his brother. Further, his family members were forcibly taken to some unknown location. This incident took place just a few weeks before India’s independence. It seems Ali Akbar adopted his new name keeping this incident in mind.

Earlier, in a Facebook post, Ali Akbar had announced his decision to renounce Islam and join the Sanatan Dharma. He said that he took the decision because Muslim fanatics posted emoticons in jubilation over the demise of CDS General Bipin Rawat.

Ali Akbar was also in the news when he announced a film on the ‘1921 Malabar Hindu Genocide’. He sought the support of public for the production of this film and many people extended a helping hand to make the film a reality. Ali Akbar faced various kinds of bullying and threats after announcing the movie, which seeks to counter the Left-Islamist narrative about the Hindu genocide in Malabar during the Khilafat movement. Ali Akbar is also an active face in Malayalam TV debates.

In a Facebook live, Ali Akbar said that he has abandoned Islam, to which he was born, and hereafter, he and his family will live the Hindu way of life, following the Bharatiya Samskriti.
