Shankarajayanti observed at Shankaracharya hill in Srinagar

Every year people from across the country visit Srinagar on Shankarajayanti with a mission to pray for peace, national harmony and for a strong nation.  Shankarajayanti is the birth day of Adi Guru Shankaracharya who was the pioneer on advaita philosophy. He was born in Kerala 2000 years ago. The saint travelled thousands of kms from Kerala, came to Kashmir to meditate at the Shankaracharya hill in Srinagar and to spread the message of peace to humanity.  On May 9 this year on Shankarajayanti, several thousands of people came to pray for the nation in remembrance of Adi Guru Shankaracharya. Swami Vishwathmananda Saraswati from Sunderbani ashram came along with hundreds of his followers and performed Abhishek for world peace. Several Purohits came from Kanchi matha in Tamilnadu and performed homa, havan and Yagna for peace in the country. Ramakrishna mission Srinagar kept book stall on the teaching of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa to spread his message of universal brotherhood.

Several displaced Kashmiri Pandits led by Ravinder Pandita also came to pray for their peaceful return to the valley. They also prayed for the opening of Sharada Peeth in POK. The program was organised by local businessman Vidhu Sharma who is also a staunch devotee of Shankaracharya. Program was given wide publicity, coordinated among the santh samaj, national leaders by team ‘One India Strong India’. The ‘One India Strong India’ team was led by its mentor Bellur Laxminarayana and Paneendra kumar from Bangalore who are driving this mission from the past six years. Shankaracharya hill temple is the most ancient Shiva temple in India. Shankaracharya hill is very sacred hill where many saints have meditated in the past.
