A team of 14 swayamsevaks, residents of Sherilingampally Nagar, Hyderabad have distributed sweaters and blankets to the poor who sleep on roadside on 3rd December.
These swayamsevaks, most of them college going students residing, have visited local apartments, colonies and gathered old newspapers and books weighing around 326Kgs and 123kgs and sold it to scrap and converted that money to purchase the winter clothes.
In colonies like Doctor ji colony, Gurukrupa Nagar, several families including employees and women came forward enthusiastically and collected old blankets and sweater’s, which were in good condition, washed and pressed.
As this collecting activity was happening, swayamsevaks conducted survey for two days at night times around 11 PM to 1 AM to locate the right people who are in need of blankets.
Finally on December 3rd, the swayamsevaks started distributing blankets and sweaters from Lingampally Doyens colony at 11: 30 pm and it continued till 4: 30 am finally ending at Panjagutta. In this drive they have distributed 98 blankets and 15 sweater’s which they have received.
M.M Karthik, who is part of this activity, said they are planning for second phase in coming weeks.
