US President Donald Trump’s travel ban on citizens of seven Muslim-majority nations now Kuwait has suspended the issuance of visas for five Muslim majority country. Kuwait Imposes a ban on tourism, visit and trade visas as well as visas sponsored by spouses from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan to prevent entry of radical Islamic terrorists.
Authorities in Kuwait imposed restrictions on tourist, trade and visitor’s visas for those belonging to these countries. Kuwaiti government told would-be migrants not to apply for visas from the five banned nations, as Kuwait City is worried about the possible migration of radical Islamic terrorists.
A group of militants bombed a Shia mosque in 2015, killing 27 Kuwaiti nationals. The move comes after US President Donald Trump banned entry from seven majority-Muslim countries, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen for 90 days.
As a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Kuwait has become embroiled in escalated tensions between the GCC and Iran. Washington has emerged as a guarantor of GCC security since the early 1990s, according to a Congressional Research Service brief.
Earlier, Emirati foreign minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan defends Trump visa ban. He said that the United States has made a sovereign decision, some of the countries on the blacklist had structural challenges on the security front that they still had to overcome. This is a temporary ban and it will be revised in three months, so it is important that we put into consideration this point, he added.
Of the five major Gulf oil monarchies, the only one to express even mild disapproval in public was Qatar, whose foreign minister was quoted during a visit to Serbia as saying he hoped Washington would reassess it. Some Gulf officials even backed it openly.
