Press Release on Run for Girl Child organized by SevaBharathi in Hyderabad

On 22nd Jan 2017, “Run for Girl Child” from Gachibowli stadium, Hyderabad,  was flagged off by Sri Vinod Agrawal, IAS, Director of MCHRDI, Smt. Vanitha Datla, president CII, Dayakar Reddy EVP, CapGemini and several other distinguished and famous personalities.

More than 4000 IT employees along with families from gated communities in Cyberabad area  participated in the run which started from Gachibowli stadium. More than 1000 girls who are enrolled in existing Kishori Vikas centers lead by coordinator Jayaprada and Dr. Jaya Sri took part in the run.

SevaBharathi representatives Raghu Verabelli, Rama Murthy along with many volunteers are among several others who championed the cause of Girl Child Education, planned and executed the event. Corporates like CapGemini (with highest number of Participants), GenPact (highest number of volunteers) and several other IT companies supported the cause both monetarily and by encouraging their employees to participate in the run.

Winners of 5K and 10K in both men’s and women’s category along with sponsors are event are recognized by Ramaraju Manthena of Vasudha foundation and other dignitaries.

SevaBharathi’s Kishori Vikas program is designed to educate and empower adolescent girls in slums, bastis and villages. SevaBharathi is currently running more than 100 Kishori Vikas centers benefiting more than 2500 girls. Each Kishori Vikas center provides education, vocational, health and other developmental activities to 25 girls in a slum for 2 hours Monday to Saturday.

SevaBharathi’s mission is to expand this program to benefit 10,000 girls (400 Kishori Vikas centers) in the state of Telangana in next 2 years. More than hundred areas from Rajendra Nagar to Bachupally are identified and Girl education and empowerment programs will be started in coming months.

SevaBharathi intends to promote volunteerism as well as channelize the existing volunteerism among residents in Gated communities and employees in IT companies in Cyberabad area in order to work for empowerment of Girl Child in Greater Hyderabad area. This is to build a model system in Cyberabad that can be replicated elsewhere in both the Telugu States and the country.

An educated girl in low income household can change the family as well as the society around her and this is what is driving Kishori Vikas program so that more such girls are empowered through education and personality development.
